About the event

The Field of Remembrance is an annual memorial garden in Westminster, London, organized by the Poppy Factory and runs for eight days. The lawn of St Margaret’s Church is marked with 250 plots for regimental and armed services associations, including a shared plot for the Sussex and Surrey Yeomanry, who proudly host the plot on alternate years. This is a ticket-only members event. If you cannot make the specific event, wish to mark your respects separately or there are no tickets available, then the field is open to the public outside of this time throughout the eight days. The garden itself is filled with small tokens, such as crosses and other denominational symbols, decorated with a remembrance poppy, marked with the name of a fallen member of the armed forces and planted in the appropriate plot. After the event, the tokens are collected, burnt, and the ashes scattered at WWI battlefields in northern France and Belgium. The event was first held in 1928 by George Arthur Howson, founder of the Poppy Factory. Any money raised is donated to The Royal British Legion.
